### 2. Take care of your email inbox!

It’s almost scary how easy it is to let your email inbox get out of control. But just like the relentless power of Mother Nature, if left to its own devices, your inbox can quickly grow beyond your means of control if you don’t tend to it daily.

Simply put:[start organizing your inbox](https://clickup.com/blog/digital-decluttering-tips/)whenever you can.

Archive messages that have already been opened and addressed, postpone messages that can wait for another day, and throw away anything that is simply taking up space.

If you really want to get into it, create folders to organize your emails based on the category of their content. Not ready to part with that 25% off email coupon from your favorite store? Archive it. Hesitant to delete your confirmation email for next week’s Suns game? Archive that too.

Each message has a place and you will feel lighter just knowing where to find them.

### 3. Clean up your physical workspace

Reducing physical clutter has the same impact on your mental clarity.

Sort and store the notes and documents scattered across your desk, toss the sticky notes stuck to your monitor that are no longer relevant, and then wipe down the surfaces. Allow yourself to[start with a truly clean slate](https://clickup.com/blog/desk-organization/), right down to your screens and keyboard.

And if you need some inspiration on what it’s like IRL, we asked our ClickUp team to show us their own organized desks:

![The incredible ClickUp table from Juan!](https://clickup.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/image9-1-1400x1051.jpg)*by Juan Cárdenas*![Neil's amazing ClickUp table!](https://clickup.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/image8-1400x976.jpg)*via Neil Amaral*![Nick's incredible ClickUp table!](https://clickup.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/image2-1101x1400.jpg)*via Nick Potok*It’s not that we’re fanatics about cleaning, we’re just obsessed with organization. 💜

That’s why we couldn’t choose just one to share!

… BTW, if you’re like me and tend to eat your snacks at your desk, you might want to clean your mouse for good measure. 👀🖱

### 4. Organize your computer and desktop

Having a personalized desktop image can add some much-needed happiness to your day, but make sure your desktop screen is free of lost files and downloads so you can see it!

If your desktop real estate is hotter than the U.S. real estate market right now, try grouping individual files into relevant folders by category or department and throwing out anything that simply doesn’t belong.

Pro tip:*remember to empty your computer’s trash, too!*🚮

### 5. Update your computer

To keep things running quickly, check for updates!

If you’re experiencing 20 minutes of downtime, check the***About This Mac***tab in the apple icon drop-down menu in the top left corner of the screen. Chrome, Evernote, Grammarly, and other plugins are also constantly updated to ensure they are running at peak proficiency! Are you overdue for an app update?

### 6. Set up a life binder

This may not sound exciting, but you’ll be so glad you did!

Compile a binder or folder with important documents, numbers, passwords and contacts that you keep forgetting or losing. Keep everything together to avoid digging through your desk drawers the next time you need to re-enter that WiFi pin number you set up five years ago.

### 7. Eliminate Distractions

More than just your physical workspace, how can you organize your living space? If you[work from home](https://clickup.com/blog/stay-productive-from-home/), you may be working in the same place where you sleep, eat lunch, read and prepare meals.

Improving the overall functionality of a space becomes even more important as you reduce its square footage, but small changes to organize or improve the feel of your main living areas can have a positive ripple effect on how you feel during your personal and professional time.

And it doesn’t have to take long!

Start with the dishes or quickly clean their surfaces; Then, you can start to think more critically about what larger functional changes you want to make. Consult the[feng shui principles](https://www.thespruce.com/feng-shui-tips-for-beginners-1274536)to ensure your changes are intentional and proven to help you[increase remote work productivity](https://clickup.com/blog/productivity-hacks/) .

### 8. Organize your closet

This gets its own mention because it’s a huge task. Besides organizing (by color, sleeve length, season, or all three), what can you reduce?

Creating extra space can remind you of clothes you used to love but have since forgotten about or reveal the staples your wardrobe still needs.

This is also a great time to pick out some outfits to eliminate the daily decision fatigue and stress of getting dressed in the morning – especially when you’re running late!

But most importantly, consider[donating your unwanted pieces](https://www.goodwillaz.org/locations/?gclid=CjwKCAjwsJ6TBhAIEiwAfl4TWMij9qQJiHuyu9iHYrhftY4jQulnfNJ1puHKGH0_rXHAIbnwpf3M9BoCrSIQAvD_BwE)or taking them to a consignment shop to give them a new lease of life!

### 9. Conquer those little tasks you’ve been putting off for days, weeks, or months

Clean your car, update your registration, wash your makeup brushes, or reseason your cast iron—we all have that “thing” that we know will only take a few minutes but can’t seem to do.

### 10. Review your budget, investments and savings

And if you don’t already have a[personal budget](https://clickup.com/templates/personal-budget-t-180546810), make one!

Even if it’s just a list of major monthly expenses or subscriptions, it can help you eliminate any surprise elements from your finances. It may be scary to open your banking app every day, but it will help you make smarter spending decisions and bring peace of mind.

Free moments in your day can also be used to[review and manage financial options](https://clickup.com/teams/finance)like your 401K or any matching opportunities your company is participating in! A little can go a long way. 💜

### 🛀🏼 Anything and everything ✨self-care✨

Healthy habits lead to a healthier lifestyle (inside and out). Start here for tips and tricks to improve your mental and physical health during those extra minutes of your day.

### 11. Drink some water

Seriously, how much water have you drunk today?

![SpongeBob drinking water](https://clickup.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/image11-2.gif)*Nickelodeon via*[*GIPHY*](https://giphy.com/gifs/spongebob-season-1-episode-3ohuPoytvN0nsfIO1G)### 12. Take care of your plants

It’s good to take care of something, and if you don’t have a pet, a plant is a good place to start.

Take a break in your day to clean its leaves, spray it and place it in the sun for a few minutes. Additionally, plants clean the air through photosynthesis and improve stress levels.

But if you*have*a pet, make sure the plant is not toxic to animals or out of their reach. 🐶

### 13. Embrace your free time and make it ‘me time’

It can be anything that simply makes you feel good. Your “me time” is precious! Use it wisely. Think “self-care” but without any major rules or judgments holding you back.

Whether you[work from home](https://clickup.com/blog/remote-work-tools/)or on-site, there is real value in feeling good about yourself and how those positive feelings translate into your work ethic.

Paint nail your nails, open some sparkling water on the patio, put on a hydrating face mask, or, hot, let yourself feel bored for a second. Life can move really fast, allow yourself the space to take a break and*do nothing*because boredom breeds creativity! Return to your tasks after this break feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

### 14. Update your morning routine

Healthy habits generate a healthy lifestyle – and health is wealth! Take pride in those little rituals that help you start your day in the best way possible, and prioritize even the smallest daily acts that put you in a good mood.

A productive day starts with a full night’s sleep and a large glass of water. Before leaving for work or sitting at your desk, can you take an easy walk or a nutritious meal to complement your breakfast? Bonus points if you can get through your routine without checking your phone. 🧖🏼‍♀️

### 15. Move your body

Stretch, do yoga or exercise, even at your desk!

Chair yoga*exists*, so the excuse of feeling confined in your office cubicle doesn’t count here. There are many YouTube and fitness blogs that offer free resources to access and follow from virtually anywhere.

Sitting in a desk chair, walking in high heels and working at a keyboard for hours on end can take a toll on your hips, shoulders, neck and back – but you’ll never regret the few minutes a day you spend correcting these habits. No matter how big or small the movements seem in the moment, it’s working!

### 16. Meditate or pray

Meditation is fabulous and the benefits are endless! Just 10 minutes of daily meditation can help you manage stress, increase self-awareness, focus on the present, reduce negative emotions, and gain a new perspective.

What they*no*say, though, is that meditation is actually very challenging!

Streaming platforms, including YouTube, Spotify, and wellness apps like Headspace, are great places to start if you’re new to meditation. Try guided meditation and buy the ones you like! There are many types of meditation too, so there is definitely one for you out there.

### 17. Take a walk

Your dog will love this one.

It sounds too easy, but walking for at least 30 minutes every day has a ton of powerful mental and physical health benefits. Like Robert Frost’s famous walks in the woods, taking a daily walk can help clear your mind, improve your mood, improve the quality of your sleep, reduce stress, and benefit your overall self-perception. Seriously, what’s there to lose?

Walking is also a great way to break out of your everyday bubble. Explore a new area in your neighborhood or city and challenge yourself by leaving your AirPods at home or trying out a[new podcast](https://clickup.com/blog/when-it-clicked-podcast-announcement/)or productivity audiobook.

### 🧠 Check in with your present and future self

Start by asking:

- How am I feeling?
- How would I describe myself?
- What are my goals?

Now consider how you would like to respond to ask these questions next week, a month from now, or even several years from now.

### 18. Meal Plan

Do you always seem to forget that one*thing*you really needed from the store every time you go?

Eliminate the guesswork about what you’re going to buy, what you’re going to do with it, and how much you will actually consume in a week by making a list in advance! Write down some balanced recipes for each daily meal and a snack that you will certainly enjoy. Then build your shopping list around these key ingredients.

Especially if you’re someone who spends a considerable amount of time during your lunch break just staring into the fridge, give your future self a healthy boost by making meal prep options the obvious choice.

### 19. Review your New Year’s resolutions

Where you are with your[long-term or quarterly goals](https://clickup.com/blog/short-term-vs-long-term-goals/) ?

This is a great opportunity to reflect and pat yourself on the back for the growth you’ve worked hard for. And if you’re not as far along as you’d hoped, there’s no better time than now to reevaluate and[make new strategic choices](https://clickup.com/blog/professional-goals-for-work/) .

### 20. Make your daily to-do list

Write down everything you’re doing today and include more than just your work-related tasks. Do you need to take out the trash? Wash the dishes? Wash your face? Load it into your to-do list.

Sometimes the hardest part of the day is just getting started, but allowing yourself the thrill of crossing even the smallest thing off your list can boost your productivity in all the right places.

And you don’t have to do it alone! Let a[to-do list app](https://clickup.com/online-to-do-list)do the heavy lifting for you with enough flexibility to keep up with your busy day. From daily tasks to shopping lists, simple reminders and more, you can count on[productivity platforms](https://clickup.com/blog/best-productivity-tools/)like ClickUp for every item on your calendar.

Not to mention you’ll never have to worry about leaving your list at home again! Access your lists from your desktop, mobile phone or browser tab.

### 21. Write it in a journal

Our CEO,[Zeb Evans](https://www.linkedin.com/in/zebevansclickup/), swears by it.

Reflect on your day, the latest achievements, thoughts, feelings and things you are grateful for. Journaling is also the perfect place to start manifesting your future self!

A new, blank page may seem intimidating, but the good news is there’s no wrong way to journal. Write down quotes or mantras that are important to you, write a letter to yourself, list your goals, and start sculpting the person you want to become.

***Here are some of our***[***favorite quotes about teamwork***](https://clickup.com/blog/teamwork-quotes/)***to help you get inspire!***

### 🌱Personal and professional development

Small productive things that make a big difference at home, at work and in your relationships.

### 22. Take a personality or communication style test

This can not only teach you something new about yourself, but also help you understand your colleagues better. Knowing how people like to be approached and how to work with them will take you far in all aspects of your life. Here are a few to get you started:

- [The 16 Personalities Test](https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test)from NERIS
- [Communication Style Quiz](https://www.leadershipiq.com/blogs/leadershipiq/39841409-quiz-whats-your-communication-style)by Leadership IQ

Furthermore, it is interesting! Any other[activists](https://www.16personalities.com/enfp-personality)out there? 🙋🏼‍♀️

### 23. Take initiative at work

If you have the bandwidth, this is the perfect time to lend a hand and pick up some extra responsibility, especially if the rest of your team is overwhelmed. Or if you’re full of ideas and don’t know what to do with them, put them together in a proposal or presentation and “impress” your boss with your proactivity and attention to detail!

### 24. Update your CV or LinkedIn profile

When was the last time you*looked*at your CV?

It’s easier[to update your resume](https://jofibo.com/resume-templates)while your job responsibilities are fresh in your mind. It’s also a bit of an ego boost to think about all the ways you add value to your team. Don’t be afraid to brag about your professional achievements because trust me, everyone else is doing it too. 😎

### 25. Start a blog

Share your knowledge and start a blog, you have nothing to lose and everything to give! These days, there are a ton of AI writing tools to help you overcome writer’s block.

***Bonus: Check out these[AI writing tools](https://clickup.com/blog/ai-writing-tools/) !***

### 26. Improve your recall

Exercise your brain with sudokus, crosswords, trivia and memory games! It’s like trivia night, only without the buffalo wings. 🙂

### 27. Follow the news in your sector or around the world

Staying up to date with what’s happening in the world or the latest news in your industry is a great way to keep you grounded at work and ready for the day – it can also help supplement your water cooler chat! Even better, it doesn’t need to take more than 10 minutes a day to catch up.

Look for a daily email newsletter that you*really enjoy reading,*like Morning Brew or Axios, to eliminate the time you would spend gathering the information yourself!

### 28. Practice your current skills

There’s always room to improve the skills you already have, and practicing is a great way to stay on top of your technical skills. Try practicing some problems or queries to turn your extra free time into another opportunity to maintain your edge.

Especially if you currently hold the record for consecutive office cornhole throws, make sure the title is still yours.

### 29. Learn a new skill

In the same vein, what are the skills you want to learn but have never pursued? Take an online course, watch a tutorial, or start a new certification—you don’t have to struggle to get a new degree to gain a valuable tool. Learning a new skill may only take an hour or maybe a few minutes a day, but you’ll never know until you start!

### 30. Stay motivated

Watch a motivational video, listen to a productivity podcast, or[pick up a personal development book](https://clickup.com/blog/book-recommendations-for-2021/)to help you speed things up.

Lucky for you,***we’ve created a list of our***[***favorite productivity podcasts***](https://clickup.com/blog/productivity-podcasts/)to give you a head start in your search.

### 31. Read

They say starting your day with[15 minutes of reading](https://medium.com/personal-growth-lab/4-reasons-why-you-should-read-every-single-morning-90571ea9b6bf#:~:text=And%20by%20reading%20in%20the,than%20watching%20TV%20or%20Netflix.)can help you feel more focused. Look for something enriching! Choose titles with substantial tips that will help you advance in some area of your life.

PS audiobooks*count* . 😉

### 32. Watch a TED Talk

This may sound like the responsible person’s form of procrastination, but TED talks are definitely more nourishing for your brain than anything on Netflix right now, so we’re giving it the green light. 🚦

Also, there are lots of TED videos. Seriously, a lot. Look for mini-lectures that talk about your interests, passion, work or relationships. When you start investing time in improving parts of yourself, everyone around you feels it too! Which is a beautiful thing. Taking your first steps under the guidance of some of the best educators TED has to offer is an obvious starting point.

On the other hand, your selection doesn’t need to be that deep either! Take your mind off whatever is weighing you down by watching one of Neil deGrasse Tyson’s**many**TED appearances. 🚀

### 🎶 Serotonin boosters (aka good old-fashioned fun)

This is my favorite section. 💃🏼

### 33. Make a productivity playlist

Does total silence feel a little too quiet? 🧐

There are countless playlists, stations and artists perfect for increasing your concentration. If you are a[long-time lofi follower](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DX8Uebhn9wzrS?si=c1551e6ec894476a)or love listening to the Harry Potter movie soundtrack, take a few free minutes to compile your favorite music to avoid[wasting time](https://clickup.com/blog/office-time-wasters/)skipping songs or getting distracted.

### 34. Enjoy your favorite music

I recommend *everything* in this [playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1Zy1aohSkeyMXljhFTjYk5?si=004fae0b37e54e43) by DJ Rod and Joey Cox from ClickUp!

### 35. Treat yourself!

For coffee! For lunch! A snack!

### 36. Plan your next vacation, staycation or weekend getaway

Have a day[of productivity planning](https://clickup.com/blog/productivity-plan/)! Use this as an opportunity to be a tourist in your own city! You don’t need to dip into your savings to have a little fun. Daydream a little and give yourself something exciting to look forward to at the end of the week.

### 37. Choose a new place to work or study

This is a great way to shake up your day and change up your surroundings. The days can easily run together when you’re simply traveling from bed to home office to couch day after day, but checking out a new local spot can help put a fresh spin on your tasks.

And if you’re like me, it also gives you a reason to brush your hair. 💇🏼‍♀️

### 🎨 Get in touch with your creative side

Ideas for expressing yourself in ways you may not have thought of before.

### 38. Connect with your artistic interests

There are endless ways to be creative during the day, but hear me out: start by buying a coloring book. Just do it.

### 39. Start a DIY project

Your home is your oasis! Even if you’re a renter, there are several quick and easy DIY projects that can help you spruce up your space at little to no cost.

These projects are also a great way to boost your confidence as a reminder that you can do anything you set your mind to. Get into the habit of being proactive and creating the change you want to see around you by transforming your home into the home of your dreams.

### 40. Start a new hobby

One of my favorite quotes at the moment is “you don’t have to be good at your hobbies”. The unrealistic expectation of needing to be good at everything you do has the potential to hold you back from so many things you may truly love but have never tried.

Try making your own cocktails to end the work day, learn to crochet, try a new recipe or start playing the ukulele. Doing something because it makes you happy is the only reason you need to keep doing it.

### 41. Take up a side hustle

…But if you’re*and*good at a certain hobby, can you turn it into a passion project?

### 42. Collect and preserve your favorite memories

*Personal sharing*: I recently went through my camera roll and selected about 100 of my favorite photos to print with no intention of framing. This stack of 4×6 photos now lives on my desk and I pick it up almost every day.

Most of them are from friends, places, pets, family or just good memories that make me smile. 🥲

You can take that same feeling and make it yours through a single framed desk photo, a photo wall, or even an album as an easy reminder of the little things that make all your hard work worth it!

### 43. Create a vision or inspiration board

This is a common craft to do on New Year’s Eve, but it’s never too late to start! Especially since vision boards often depict your inspiration for the current version of yourself or ideas for the immediate future.

Take a look at Pinterest, your favorite magazines, and blogs for images, words, and templates that convey the values you want to keep in mind every day.

Also, what a cute thing to decorate your work space with. work!

### ☎️Call a friend (or colleague, or family member)

Seriously, have you spoken to another human being today? Pick up the phone or take a walk around the office to make these quick but important connections throughout the day.

### 44. Talk to a family member or old friend

If you can’t talk right away, schedule another time to talk that works for both of you! Scheduling can be difficult, but there’s always time to reconnect with someone you love.

### 45. Schedule a coffee with a colleague or friend

Break the day of the week and click “refresh” in your brain with a conversation that doesn’t have to do with your work tasks. This goes for Zoom too! If your team is remote, include 15 minutes in your coworker’s schedule as a fun surprise. ☕️

### 46. Network online

Search some of your favorite platforms for upcoming seminars or sign up for a networking event to meet other peers in your industry. There are also many online forums, pages, and groups to help you connect with new people in your professional community in whatever way you feel most comfortable!

### 47. Write an email to a coworker

Is there someone at your company you admire but have never met? Or maybe someone from across departments with a job you’d like to know more about – send them a message! You will never know until you ask.

### 48. Reach out to potential customers

Gauge their interest, send a presentation, or write thank you emails to potential customers or partners. Then, create templates for these emails to save even more time on this front in the future!

### 🫶🏼 Doing Good

It’s never a bad time to lend a hand. 💜🦄

### 49. Shop small

Consider how you can support local businesses. It may seem easier to turn to the most popular retailers out of habit, but there are definitely a ton of amazing small businesses found on sites like Etsy, or even locally, right in your backyard.

Think: gifts, everyday products, locally grown food options, and cleaning products. There are always more options than the obvious choices!

### 50. Random acts of kindness

[Random acts of kindness](https://taskup.com.br/contato/) are a big problem for us. 🎗

There is so much happening in the world and it seems like the news never stops. Sometimes it can be difficult to get up and go to work as if everything is fine, even if we don’t really think it is.

If you have a little free time in your workday, spend it wisely by looking for causes and people to help. Donate to a charity, volunteer, or even contact your company! Many companies have budgets set aside or offer donation matching for this scenario.

It’s always a good idea to give back. 🤝
